More on the "Mean Green 'Zine Scene" . . . Ever wonder what's on an Art Director's mind--deadlines, desires, editorial calendar, metro magazine trends...or when's lunch? Come meet and greet several of these busy talented folks at the Colorado Alliance of Illustrators new November program (a fast replacement of Danlyn's cool program that's moving to spring). Part panel discussion, part portfolio pitch*. You'll get a chance to hear what magazine people are seeking, and get a 2 minute portfolio flip though with each. You'll get a heads up on some great publications, while they get to see some of Denver area's best/hot illustrative talent. Magazine Art Directors Meet, Greet & Peek with CAI Illustrators (Magazines: 5280, Denver Woman, Single's Resource Guide and Advertising & Marketing Review represented**) Starring**: 5280's art director Mike Leister is representing his 6th magazine. He's worked all over the country including Indianapolis Monthly and Sports Illustrated in New York. 5280 has been one of Denver's best loved and long-running city magazines. Mike has been with them since June of 2006. Denver Woman Magazine's editor Judy Taylor will talk about established and changing publication needs. She started Zenith Magazine in Denver 9 years back and has seen it through the transition to the renowned Denver Woman Magazine since 2006. Profiling successful women and important stories and trends has been Judy's specialty. Colorado Singles Resource Guide & Singlocity.com's publisher & editor Beth Anderson has struck Colorado gold with the success of her new magazine and web site. Featuring hot topics and leading news makers, the magazine profiles people and services, while serving as a one-stop information hub for the entire singles community in Colorado. Advertising and Marketing Review's publisher/editor/multi-hatted media mogul Ken Custer has highlighted local illustrators prevalently over his 16 years at the magazine's helm. A & M is unique resource which has stood the test and tides of time, covering news and happenings of the advertising, public relations, print, broadcast, radio, and film industries. Really helpful for seeing who has been moving and shaking, and changing constant contact info in pencil. **TBA--there might be a few other publishing surprises, including reps from another magazine or two, sample copies, and insider info, not to be missed. *There will be a limited number of portfolio review spots, and a waiting list. You must be a current CAI member to sign up. Tip: Have your materials completely together and in order for fast flipping-since you have two minutes (just like real life!) to show your best stuff. Just like speed-dating, with art. CAI members can also put out "leave-behind" materials out on a display table. Members who don't get portfolio review slot can have their portfolio out on the table. If our magazine people still have time, they may take a look.
